About.com's French Cuisine Expert, Debra F. Weber, Receives the Culinary Trust's Julia Child Endowment Fund Scholarship
NEW YORK (June 28, 2006) - About.com's Guide to French Cuisine, Debra F. Weber, has been awarded The Culinary Trust's Julia Child Endowment Fund Scholarship for research in France. Specifically, this scholarship will enable Debra to explore the country's "taste monuments," or regions famous for their rare, indigenous foods. These delicacies include fleur de sel (a special salt), artisanal produce and cheeses, kamok and pommeau liqueurs and other uniquely French taste adventures.
Established in 1997 to perpetuate Julia Child's culinary interest and legacy, the $5,000 scholarship provides funds for a career professional to conduct independent study and research in France as it relates to French food, wine, history, culture and traditions. The scholarship offsets Debra's expenses for travel, research and accommodations.
While in France, Debra will not only conduct research as she meets with producers, chefs and locals, but will also share her experiences on her popular Web site, http://frenchfood.about.com.
"Receiving the Julia Child Endowment Fund Scholarship is a tremendous honor, and traveling throughout France to experience the country's culinary delights was a dream come true," said Debra F. Weber. "I am also thrilled to continue to share my culinary journey with readers on About.com."
In addition, her travels and culinary studies will be captured in a book, to be co-authored by Debra and Kathryn Morton, a friend and French Professor at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
Debra, who became a passionate Francophile and enthusiastic cook since living in Europe 20 years ago, is also president of a gourmet club exclusively devoted to exploring the wines and cheeses of France. She travels to France several times a year to continue her research of unique and special gastronomic products and to conduct interviews with chefs and producers.
