Senior Vice President, Content & Guide Operations

Michael Daecher has been actively involved in the creation and management of About.com's robust library of original content since 1999. In this role, Michael oversees more than one million pieces of content generated and maintained under About.com's unique Guide System and leads a staff of editors who manage the freelance network of Guides while making sure the content meets About.com's high editorial standards. Michael first joined About.com as education editor.

Senior Vice President, Product Development

As senior vice president of product development, Kevin oversees the day-to-day system development, system administration and technology support for About.com. Since joining About.com in 1999 as Vice President of Development, Kevin has been instrumental in building out the company's world-class product and services offering including its vast library of more than 1 million pieces of content and ad management systems. Prior, Kevin had a successful 10-year run at Prodigy Services Company, operating across a wide range of management, marketing, development and technical capacities. Before entering the online world, Kevin enjoyed success in the financial sector where he held a variety of positions.
Kevin holds degrees in History and Computer Information Systems.

Senior Vice President, Operations

Chris joined About.com in January 2000 with a broad exposure to the Internet arena. In his current role, he manages all aspects of data center operations.

Prior to About, Chris served as VP, Professional Services and VP, Enterprise Engineering at Global Center. On the Professional Services front he was in charge of supporting Yahoo, eToys, MTV, Washington Post and other prominent Web brands. In his more recent role as VP of Enterprise Engineering, he oversaw Global Center's top talent specializing in the design and development of reliable and scalable technologies.

Chris' past positions include the San Jose Mercury News, Cisco Systems, IBM, and co-founder of I-Storm where, he developed commerce/shopping cart software packages for Egghead Software, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett Packard, Disney, and Intuit.

Chris graduated from the University of California Bakersfield with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Darline currently serves as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of About.com. In this role, she steers the company's financial planning and accounting operations. Darline joined About.com in 2003 with more than 12 years of experience in finance and accounting within the media/publishing industry. Prior to joining About.com, she was the director of financial planning and analysis for Thomson Media, a major publisher of financial publications.

Darline holds a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York and an M.B.A with a concentration in both finance and accounting from Long Island University.

Senior Vice President, Product Management

An industry veteran, Dae has enjoyed a successful fifteen-year career in the product management industries, working both online and offline in content and product management. Prior to About.com, Dae was the director of interactive content at Optimum Online at Cablevision Systems Corporation and she is the former vice president for IWON, Inc. She has held product management positions at Merrill Lynch & Co., Ameritrade Holding Corporation, and Prodigy Services Company.

Dae holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Commerce from Brown University and graduated from Columbia Business School with an MBA.

Chief Search Strategist

Marshall D. Simmonds was named chief search strategist for The New York Times Company in March, 2005. Mr. Simmonds is responsible for maximizing traffic and search engine exposure by implementing strategic marketing techniques for NYTimes.com, Boston.com, IHT.com and About.com. In addition to his work with The Times, he is also spearheading DEFINE SEARCH STRATEGIES, an enterprise search consulting service, funded by The New York Times Company.

Mr. Simmonds is a world-wide speaker and a regular presenter at Jupiter Media’s Search Engine Strategies and Webmaster World conferences. Before joining The New York Times Company, Mr. Simmonds was the director of search for About.com and parent company, Primedia Inc. from 1999 until 2005. He drove marketing strategies for Primedia’s online properties, increasing traffic 1095 percent in five years. From 1997 to 1999, he created and managed I-Search Digest, a twice-weekly e-mail discussion list for industry professionals.

General Manager, Health

A career health journalist, Marjorie Martin joined About in April 2006 as the General Manager of Health. In her newly created role, Marjorie is responsible for all health information and tools on About. She supervises a staff of physicians and health editors who guide and supervise the development of health content.

Marjorie brings more than 20 years of experience to About, including eight years as Vice President of Content at WebMD where she was instrumental in launching the editorial operation that became the centerpiece of WebMD. She also led the successful launch of WebMD the Magazine, WebMD's first offline publication. Prior to WebMD, Marjorie was Executive Producer of Medical News at CNN where she directed daily health news coverage and oversaw the production of weekly in-depth health programming.

Marjorie graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Maryland with a degree in journalism.

Vice President, Business Development

Marc Goldberg is Vice President, Business Development at About, Inc. Marc oversees the company’s corporate development initiatives as well as strategic partnerships and ecommerce deals. Marc facilitated the company’s recent acquisition of Calorie-Count.com and has been instrumental in helping to establish the company’s European presence.

Marc joined About, Inc. in 2002. Before his post as Vice President, business development, Marc held various sales roles within the company. Prior to joining About, Inc., Marc held Sales and Advertising managerial positions at Phase2 Media, J. Walter Thompson and Zenith Media.

Marc received his BA in Communications from the University of Hartford.

Vice President, Marketing

Peter joins the About.com team from The New York Times, where he was Director of Digital Marketing Solutions and where he built and managed a multimedia marketing team who, among other projects, created ‘Times On Air’™, an original and exclusive in-flight video magazine presented by the JetBlue Card from American Express.

Before joining The Times, Peter was the Vice President of Database Marketing for Clear Channel Entertainment, the world's leading producer and marketer of live entertainment. There, Peter led the development of the company's data warehouse and digital direct marketing program. Prior to Clear Channel, Peter headed up the marketing department of New York City's first Internet incubator, Iron Street Labs. From 1992 to 1999 Peter held a variety of roles at DDB Worldwide, one of the world's top advertising firms.

Peter holds a BA from Pace University and an MA in Marketing from New York University.
